Cassava or manioc, is a plant that grows throughout Indonesia. Therefore many areas in Indonesia make cassava into their typical traditional food. One of them is made of processed material to make kripik. kripik widely spread in Indonesia, West Sumatra well known with Sanjai.

There are differences in the naming of kripik sanjai, some call kripik sanjai there is also called kripik sanjai balado. Indeed the two are different, if kripik sanjai only thinly sliced thin and fried, without adding chili powder, the appropriate colour brownish yellow, whereas make sanjai balado added chili powder when fried after the result kripik sanjai balado the appropriate colour is red.

Singkong, ubi kayu atau ketela adalah tanaman yang banyak tumbuh diseluruh Indonesia. Oleh karena itu banyak daerah di Indonesia menjadikan singkong ini menjadi bahan jajanan khas mereka. Salah satunya dijadikan bahan olahan untuk mmbuat kripik. Kripik singkong banyak tersebar di Indonesia, untuk di Sumatra Barat terkenal dengan istilah Sanjai.  
Terdapat perbedaan penamaan terhadap kripik ini, ada yang menyebut 'kripik sanjai' ada juga yang menyebut 'kripik sanjai balado. Memang keduanya berbeda, jika kripik sanjai hanya singong iiris tipis tipis dan langsung di goreng tanpa menambahkan bubuk cabai warnanya cendrung berwarna kuning kecoklatan, sedangkan kripik sanjai balado menambahkan bubuk cabai setelah singkong digoreng hasilnya tekstur ripik berwarna kemerah merahan.  
Jajanan khas ranah minang ini selain memberikan rasa khas daerah minang yang relatif pedas, juga mempunyai kandungan gizi ang baik, diantaranya : kalori, kalsium, fosfor juga karbohidrat yang tinggi. Rasa dari cemilan ini gurih, pedas dan tentunya lezat  Kripik ini merupakan makanan ringan dan renyah dan cocok dinikmati pada saat santai.
