(Kamu sedang menggoreng apa?), sang kakek berusaha menjawab sebisanya dan menjelaskan makanan yang ia goreng terbuat dari tahu. Karena penasaran, sang pangeran langsung mencicipi satu. Setelah mencicipi, bupati spontan berkata dengan wajah puas 'enak benar makanan ini, coba kamu jual pasti laris'. Tak lama setelah itu masyarakat Sumedang gemar mengkonsumsi tahu tersebut, hingga sekarang tahu sumedang sudah tersebar luas hinngga jauh keluar Sumedang.
